Opportunities From: Kanbe's Markets

Volunteer: AM - Produce Sorting

With our goal to redirect 3 million pounds of food in 2026, Kanbe’s Markets invites you to join us for one or more shifts with our Produce Sorting opportunity!

Donated food from wholesale partners arrives daily and it is with volunteer support that it is sorted and distributed throughout low access neighborhoods in Kansas City.

Volunteers play a vital role in sorting donated produce into our four redirection tiers, ensuring that every piece of food finds its best possible use:

1. Fresh Food Access Partners – bringing fresh, affordable produce to underserved areas.

2. Hunger Relief Partners – providing fresh produce to over 59 local food pantries for neighbors in need.

3. Animal Feed – supporting nonprofit rescue farms.

4. Compost – for items not fit for human or animal consumption.

Volunteers will...

Sort incoming donated produce into one of four redirection tiers. Assist with crate organization and packing pallets for distribution. Support warehouse staff in keeping operations running smoothly (warehouse maintenance & cleaning).

Your Impact: By volunteering with Produce for the People, you’re helping ensure fresh, affordable produce reaches neighbors who need it most — while also reducing food waste through responsible redirection.

Every one pound sorted creates four servings of fresh produce for someone in our community.Volunteers support fresh food access for over 500,000 Kansas City residents each month.Volunteers rescue over $5.7 million dollars worth of food from landfills each year.
